Mares

The Foundation of Our Program

Our broodmares are selected for more than pedigree alone. We prioritize athleticism, trainability, soundness, disposition, and real-world versatility. Many of our mares have proven themselves in competition, on the ranch, or through the success of their offspring. Together they form the foundation of our commitment to producing performance horses that are built for performance and made to last.

2021 gelding by CD Diamond – proven ranch, roping, and calf horse. Owned by 2C Ranch Horses

Cosmo is the foundation mare of our program and the standard by which we measure every horse we raise. A daughter of Lanas Cat and out of Smart Lil Zoey, she combines some of the industry’s most influential cow horse bloodlines with the versatility, athleticism, and trainability we strive to produce at JS Performance Horses.

Throughout her career, Cosmo has proven herself as the kind of horse every ranch and performance rider hopes to own. I personally trained and showed her as a beginning cow horse rider, and despite limited showing opportunities and cattle work, she consistently impressed judges, competitors, and spectators alike with her natural ability, powerful stops, athleticism, and willingness to learn. Whether in the arena, on the ranch, or gathering cattle in large pastures, she has always been a dependable partner ready to get the job done.

What makes Cosmo truly special is her ability to pass those qualities on to her offspring. Her first foal, by CD Diamond, has already established himself as a proven ranch horse, team roping horse, and calf roping horse—demonstrating the versatility, work ethic, and athletic ability that define this mare’s influence.

With proven performance bloodlines, exceptional trainability, and early evidence of production success, Cosmo represents everything we value in a broodmare. She is the kind of mare capable of producing horses that excel in the arena, on the ranch, and anywhere in between. As our program continues to grow, we believe her greatest accomplishments are still ahead of her through the next generation of horses she produces.

Built for performance. Made to last.

Few mares in our program combine pedigree, athletic ability, conformation, and disposition as completely as this mare. Sired by Metallic Coquette and out of Miss Billie Cat, she represents some of the most influential modern cow horse genetics while maintaining the kind of structure, substance, and correctness we believe are essential to producing long-lasting performance horses.

Purchased as a performance prospect, she showed exceptional promise from an early age. Well started as a two-year-old, she demonstrated the athleticism, natural cow sense, powerful stop, and fluid turnarounds that make standout performance horses. Beyond her ability, what impressed us most was her mindset. Quiet, level-headed, and remarkably willing, she possesses the kind of disposition that makes training enjoyable and creates dependable partners both in and out of the arena.

Her calm nature has always set her apart. Even after extended time away from work, she consistently returned to her job with a steady, no-nonsense attitude. Whether under saddle, in new environments, or faced with unfamiliar situations, she has remained the same confident and trustworthy mare.

Her family has already proven its ability in the performance arena. A full sister earned Reserve Futurity Champion honors with the Alberta Stock Horse Association, further validating the quality and potential found throughout this maternal line.

While circumstances led her toward a career as a broodmare rather than a show horse, she remains one of the mares we believe had all the ingredients to excel at a high level. With exceptional conformation, proven genetics, athletic ability, and an outstanding disposition, she represents the type of mare capable of producing versatile prospects for the ranch, cow horse, roping, and stock horse worlds.

She is a mare we are extremely proud to have as part of the foundation of JS Performance Horses and one we expect to make a lasting impact through her offspring.

Multiple offspring competing successfully in barrel racing

Twist is a beautiful mare with the kind disposition, trainability, and presence that make exceptional broodmares. Gentle and personable, she is often the first to greet you at the gate and exemplifies the willing attitude we strive to produce in every generation.

She is sired by the legendary Holidoc, an NCHA money earner of more than $100,000 and a proven sire whose offspring have earned nearly $1 million across the NCHA, NRHA, and NRCHA. Through Holidoc, Twist carries the influence of industry legends including Doc Bar, Doc Quixote, and Hollywood Gold, bloodlines renowned for cow sense, athleticism, and longevity. Her maternal side traces to Haidas Little Pep, a son of Peppy San Badger, further strengthening her foundation of proven cutting and cow horse genetics.

Beyond her pedigree, Twist has proven herself where it matters most—as a producer. Several of her offspring have gone on to compete successfully in barrel racing, demonstrating her ability to pass on athleticism, trainability, and versatility. Her proven production record, combined with a pedigree that remains a valuable outcross to many of today’s heavily concentrated cow horse bloodlines, makes her an important part of our broodmare program.

Twist embodies the qualities we value at JS Performance Horses: a strong mind, athletic ability, proven maternal influence, and genetics built for long-term success. We are excited to see her legacy continue through future generations of performance horse prospects.

Freckles is a young mare who joined our program with all the qualities we look for in a future broodmare—strong genetics, attractive conformation, and a kind, willing disposition. Sired by Blu Dualin Boon and out of Solanos Frosted Pine, she brings together proven performance bloodlines with the athletic build and presence that make quality breeding stock.

A beautifully made mare with a refined head, balanced structure, and eye-catching appearance, Freckles has impressed us from the beginning with her calm attitude and easy-going nature. Although still young, she possesses the kind of temperament and natural athleticism that suggest she would have had a bright future under saddle.

Due to a shoulder injury sustained early in life, Freckles’ career has transitioned from performance prospect to broodmare. While unfortunate, we are excited for the opportunity to preserve and build upon the genetics she carries through future generations.

As one of the younger mares in our broodmare band, Freckles represents an exciting investment in the future of our program. We look forward to watching her mature as a producer and seeing the qualities she passes on to her foals.

Some horses leave a lasting impression on your life, and Bella is one of those rare mares whose story has come full circle.

Purchased as an unstarted coming five-year-old, Bella became my first true cow horse. After starting her in the fall of 2013, she entered the show pen less than a year later and quickly proved her natural athleticism and willingness. Competing with the North Alberta Reined Cow Horse Club (now Alberta Stock Horse Association), she earned a High Fence Award and consistently placed well throughout the season despite having less than a year under saddle.

As life and opportunities evolved, Bella was sold in 2014 and went on to enjoy a successful career in barrels and gymkhana. While she left our program, she was never forgotten.

A decade later, fate intervened. In the fall of 2024, an unexpected opportunity arose to bring Bella home. By sheer luck, we were able to welcome her back to the ranch, making her one of the most meaningful additions to our broodmare band.

Beyond her story, Bella brings the pedigree, athleticism, and conformation we value in our breeding program. She is a granddaughter of Lenas Wright On and carries the influence of the legendary Doc Bar, a foundation sire whose impact can still be found in many of today’s greatest performance horses. Her pedigree blends proven cow horse genetics with the kind of versatility and durability that stand the test of time.

Bella is one of the prettiest mares on the ranch, combining a strong, balanced build, ample bone, athletic movement, and a refined, feminine head. More importantly, she possesses the intelligence, willingness, and natural ability that first made her special all those years ago.

We are incredibly grateful to have Bella back where her story began and excited to see the next chapter of her legacy unfold through the foals she produces for JS Performance Horses.
